Sony Shrinks Speakers

The phrase ‘bigger isn’t always better’ certainly applies to the world of technology, we tend to like our gadgets as sleek and compact as possible.
When it comes to speaker design you wouldn’t think this would apply though, yet Sony begs to differ with its new 5.1 surround sound systems.
Who are we to argue with a company that has so much experience in the audio market, its new HTIS100 home audio system includes a meaty enough 200W sub but handles the rest through five golf-ball sized satellites.
These allegedly offer 50W of power and ‘top notch home theatre sound’, though how it generates the range needed for a rounded environment from something so small we don’t know.
The system also features HDMI connectivity and Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto Calibration auto-setup technology, along with a digital signal processor to optimise the setup in your living room.
The system hits Japan in June and though it will arrive in North America and Europe there are no details on pricing or arrival times as yet.
