Sony Launching First OLED TVs

We saw some very cool prototypes of Sony’s planned OLED TVs at January’s CES 2007 Show in Vegas but we’re now happy to report that they are a reality. At least in Japan.
On December 1st, Sony will start selling the Sony Drive XEL-1 OLED TV which measures in at an anorexic 3mm thin. It might be skinny and only have a display size of 11in, but it boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Resolution is clocked at 960×540 pixels and it sports a digital TV tuner, little 1Watt speakers, a HDMI input, Ethernet and USB ports.
It will cost around £850, which is a helluva price to pay for a tiny TV but, hey, we are talking the first commercially available OLED TV here.-Martin Lynch
