New Wii Accessory To Put The ‘Sqweeze’ On Gamers
Ah, the Nintendo Wii. A console that is six parts fun and innovation and four parts abuse and experimentation. The head of Sega made no bones about announcing that the ‘Wii market is flooded with crap’ recently, but this comment shouldn’t just be reserved for games. There’s all manner of ridiculous looking add-ons and attachments for the Wii remote, very few of which are even worth the price of the postage spent on getting them delivered. While there have been some big hits in the peripherals arena such as the Wii Fit board, a new ‘accessory’ for keeping fit on your console looks dangerously like yet another blatant cash-in. The Wii Sqweeze is a rather chunky peripheral that you slot your Wii remote into (for no obvious reason) and then flex the pair of rubber handles for shoulder abduction and adduction. Potential uses on a postcard to the usual address, but it seems as though this will either form some sort of upper body workout to accompany the Wii Fit series or be used to trick you into exercising through a series of minigames. Rumour has it the unit has been demonstrated with some sort of bow and arrow game already, but further details are few and far between. It’s set for a 2009 release but based on the limited range of movement available and an undoubtedly high price tag we can’t see this even coming close to the success of Wii Fit. - Paul Lester [Exergamelab] Wii console peripheral
