New Range Of Advanced Fridges Drag Salad Into Modern Generation
Refrigerators are one of those essential household appliances that seem to enjoy getting more involved with fancy technology than you’d think necessary. The latest crazy innovation obviously comes from Japan, where Hitachi has been developing a new line that automatically sprays your food with chemicals to help keep them fresh and healthy. Two new models - the RY6000 and RY5400 - actually detect what you’re storing so it can spray the right amount of vitamins and nutrients around to kill bacteria and prolong the life of the produce. Elsewhere Apple seems to be getting involved in the same market, following news from Slovenian company Gorenje that it has procured the rights to an officially licensed iPod fridge. This peculiar marriage of food and music will house its own set of speakers as well as allowing you to connect your player directly to control the operation of the fridge via a home network. This is all starting to sound a bit barmy to us. Do we really need to be concerned about spraying foodstuffs with additives and gaining more control over a thermostat than we already have? - Paul Lester [TechRadar] fridge food iPod
