More Concerns Over Tech-Addiction: It’s Starting To Get Silly

More mobile phone news for those of you interested in following the habits of our modern-day technology-driven existence. Hot on the heels of reports that excessive texting could result in a long-term affect on our health, along with our steadfast refusal to heed such warnings is more evidence that we seriously cannot do without our new chip-based best friends.A survey by igizmomag of males and females aged 16-45 revealed some rather bizarre habits of the kind that the average person would probably only admit to under pain of death (or the promise of a £10,000 payoff from Hello magazine). It reports such figures as an estimated 730,000 of UK citizens using their mobile phone while in the throes of passion with a partner, while 2% of participants admitted to chatting away whilst attending a funeral. Elsewhere, 9% cited their mobile phone as more important than their family, health and friends and assorted other bizarre responses included using a phone while getting a filling at a dentist or ‘having a rectal examination’. Ok, this is starting to get a bit stupid, but it doesn’t end there. When assessing people’s priorities where devices like phones and MP3 players are concerned, consumers are proportionally now more concerned about losing one of these than a handbag or briefcase, along with the fact that they rank more important in life than things like booze or cigarettes. Gadget addiction has been building for a while, which makes you think that people like good old Doc Block will end up making a fine living counselling people who get a little bit too used to fraternising over digital airwaves. What happened to the good old days of biologically-sound addictions like nicotine and alcohol? - Paul Lester [igizmomag] mobile phone mp3 player addiction
