Credit to Microsoft in the gaming market, it certainly knows how to compete in terms of price. The X-Box has been the most ‘dropped’ console of the latest generation, and most recently we saw the arcade version fall to just £129.99 shortly after Woolworths leaked the good news. Well, Woolworth’s can eat Sainsbury’s shorts because the supermarket chain has just announced a rather significant discount to the Arcade version by dropping it from £129.99 to just £99.99. It has also ‘ignored retail recommendations’ by reducing the standard version of the console to just £139.97 (from £169.97) and so as to not to be biased towards Microsoft has made the unprecedented move of reducing the price of a Wii from £179.97 to £149.97. These are some pretty hefty savings, but we hear that this is simply a special promotion that will be running between October 3rd and October 12th. It has also cleverly restricted these prices to its stores, rather than including web-based purchases, so you’ll be forced to have to make a journey and most probably pick up your groceries at the same time.
