iPhone: No Chubby Headphone Plugs Allowed

Your old-school headphones may not work with the new iPhone, according to headset maker Plantronics, which is churning out a line of new headsets just for the iPhone. The problem is the plug: the iPhone’s headphone jack is slightly recessed, so headphones that sheathe their plugs in a chubby housing aren’t going to be able to snap all the way into the iPhone. Plantronics’ new iPhone headsets, on the other hand, have a skinny plug, so they’ll fit.
Standard Apple iPod headphones and cheap earbuds with a long, skinny plug will also fit. Not sure about headphones with right-angled jacks. We’ll figure that out this weekend. Also, remember that the iPhone has a 3.5-mm jack, not a 2.5-mm jack, so standard cell phone headsets won’t work (they use 2.5-mm plugs.)
