Garmin nüvifone Hands-On: Nice UI
Garmin will be hoping to steal some iPhone thunder later this year [aren’t they all?] - with its first phone, the nüvifone, unveiled back in February but not due for launch until Q3. It’s been quiet though for a while now but some dedicated folk from Laptop Mag have been trawling around the CommunicAsia show and managed to get a decent hands-on with a working prototype which, despite some flaws and odd freeze-up, manages to really impress with its user interface (UI) - a strong point for many Apple products. You can catch a video link after the jump. For those that need reminding, the nüvifone - when fully loaded - will sport a 3.5in touchscreen display, support Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity and 3.5G HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It will also have in-built GPS, a camera and the display swaps from portrait to landscape depending on which way you’re holding it. The display sports some dedicated icons for key activities but there are many more that can be browsed by swiping your finger across the row. Seeing as we are now heading into Q3 and considering the niggles still being experienced by early users, I wouldn’t be surprised if the nuvifone’s launch slipped to Q4.-Martin Lynch [Nuvifone Hands-on] mobile phone phones GPS garmin
