Sample Photos and Video from the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

xperia-x1-photo.jpg

Not bad at all. For a 3.15 megapixel camera, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1’s built-in snapper is quite capable. At least that’s what images over at USEB present:

I was really surprised by how good the camera in ͱ actually is. The quality is rather high, and I haven’t experienced either annoying or serious white balance or colour problems. Sure, there are a few ones with a purple tint, but this is a seldom sight that’s hardly of any annoyance to me.

Writer Michell should’ve also tried snapping shots in really poor conditions, like a smoke-filled bar. The daytime images are very decent, although some light graininess makes super clarity virtually impossible. In any case, take a look at the full collection here.

Olympus confirms micro Fourth Thirds cams coming in the next year

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Filed under:

Panasonic might be the first to ship its new micro Four Thirds G1, but Olympus definitely stole the hotness crown with that retro concept cam, and the company just confirmed that it’ll join the ranks of the shipping — Olympus European marketing director Miquel Angel Garcia told Pocket-lint that we should expect a camera similar to the prototype within the next 12 months. According to Garcia, micro Four Thirds is “about design and style, not about a smaller black box” — take that, Panny. Hopefully this means we’ll be seeing the DSLR-sized micro Four Thirds sensor shake up the fashion cam market, but we’ll see what Olympus has in store — the sooner the better, guys.

Packet8 Drops International Calling Phone Rates

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Calls to China dropped from 3¢ per minute to now 1¢ per minute? Wow! That’s a 67% drop! All I can say is it is absolutely amazing how far prices have dropped. The race to zero/free calling continues…

Packet8 sent me an email announcing several price drops. They also stated, "And now all calls to India are only 5.9¢ per minute — permanently!" While that’s a great rate, not sure they want to pain themselves in a corner. Suppose someone offers 4¢ per minute to India - is Packet8 going to stick to their guns and stay at 5.9¢ per minute? Ok, I′m being nit-picky with their words. I′m sure they meant it will never go up, but potentially could go down.

In any event, check out the email I received from Packet8 with the amazing rate drops.

ST Electronics debuts DigiSAFE DCM200 smartcard-protected HDD enclosure

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

ST Electronics is showing off a new drive case at CES, the DigiSAFE DiskCrypt Mobile DCM200, that’s been touted as the world’s first USB 2.0 external enclosure with smartcard protection. The drive offers “2-Factor” protection, requiring users to insert a smartcard and then enter a PIN before they can get at the hardware-encrypted data. Since everything is done by the hardware of the enclosure, the DCM200 is completely OS-independent and requires zero software installation on the host machine. The units will start shipping March 2008 for about $999.
