Boycott Novell Protesters Manhandled In India

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

James Mathew writes “This is an interesting story from Kerala, India, where the ruling Communist Party organized a national conference in its efforts to hijack the Free Software Movement, which has enviable roots in the state. They got Novell to sponsor it. On the second day of the conference, a few free software activists who displayed posters against Novell were manhandled by the organizers and police — typical of what is expected from them. Most of the snaps taken during the scuffle were forcefully deleted by the organizers, after seizing the protesters’ mobile phones. Still they couldn’t delete all. Here is another blow-by-blow account.”

Laptop shipments exceed desktops in US for the not-exactly-first time

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Hope you′re eager to break into that Halloween candy early, because you′ve got some (re)celebrating to do. If you′ll recall, we first heard that laptops accounted for over half of US retail computer sales back in 2003, and in June of 2005, we found that it was somehow worth getting jazzed over once more when it happened again. Here we are in the latter half of 2008 shaking our heads in disappointment, as IDC has amazingly discovered that notebook shipments into the US market have exceeded the 50% threshold for the first time evar. Go ahead and stock up on rave supplies early — we get this weird feeling that we’ll be doing this same song and dance in 2010 or so.

Excellent Telecom & Voice over IP Blog

Monday, October 20th, 2008

If you haven’t been reading On Rad’s Radar, you should. This TMC blog is written by Peter Radizeski the CEO of Rad-Info, Inc. Let me take an excerpt from his bio.

“Today, I am still an agent for about 20 carriers (all through other master agents), but I spend more time consulting for service providers (ISP, WISP, CLEC, MSO, FTTH, and ITSP) on strategy, marketing, messaging, and sales training. I also spend a good deal of time blogging here at TMC and other places. Thanks for reading!”

Peter also speaks and moderates sessions at Internet Telephony Conference & Expo. Peter knows the VoIP/telecom industry very well and has great insights. He’s especially knowledgeable in the wireless industry. I’ve had some great conversations with Peter in the ITEXPO press room about various industry topics. He’s not as prolific a blogger as me , but when he does write, it’s good stuff! So add him to your RSS reader - you won’t be disappointed.

Barco demoes 10MP 3D stereo CADWall setup

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Filed under:

Barco has a knack for stopping shows, and while Tokyo’s Industrial Virtual Reality expo didn’t exactly shut down, we can only imagine how many folks took the time to check out the CADWall concept. Hailed as a “multi-channel display system with a high pixel density that consists completely of Barco technology,” said system utilizes a pair of LX-5 projectors, a superflat high-contrast screen and just two-channels to create a 10-megapixel 3D stereo image. Sure beats six or eight to make the third-dimension come to life, huh?
