We’re sure there’s some small corner of the planet where this has created a maelstrom of interest and speculation, but seriously, we’re just not feeling it. Chinese PMP-hub iMP3 has nabbed some “spy shots” of the Chuwi T8, a touchscreen media player that looks like the unholy union of an iPhone and Zune. As far as features and release information goes, we haven′t heard specifics, but you can assume it will play a ton of different audio and video formats, will emulate some old consoles, and won′t ever be available in the US.

If there’s one thing that could put a stop to terrorism once and for all, it’s this DAP. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of an anti-American jihadist like this hideous MP3 player loaded up with Deerhoof b-sides and the entire Duran Duran back-catalog. The next time you snake under barbed wire and behind enemy lines, let them know where you′re coming from by flashing this baby before you unload round after round of righteousness. Sure, it’s only got 1GB of storage, but it’s not about how many tracks you′ve got — it’s about showing off your American spirit with this Chinese-made product.

If you′ve been holding off on getting an ʍ for some strange reason, perhaps a bump in capacity will push you over the edge. That’s right, Cowon’s little performer just got more junk in the trunk — 80GB of junk, to be exact. Sure, you’ll have to drop €448 (or about $691) on this thing, but think of all the pics, music, and “movies” you’ll be able to load up on it.

T-Mobile has finally stumbled into the world of high-speed data transfer today: The company is rolling out a 3G network in New York City. The last of the major American networks to make the leap, T-Mobile’s network bump is focused more on improving call quality than on resource-heavy activities such as Web browsing. The new network uses UMTS and HSDPA systems.
According to T-Mobile, 3G coverage will be rolled out across the country throughout 2008. “By year’s end, T-Mobile expects its high-speed data network will be available in those cities where a majority of its subscribers currently use data services,” said the company in a release issued today.
At present, the carrier offers four 3G phones: the Nokia 6263, Nokia 3555, Samsung , and Samsung . But, as Sascha Segan points out at PCMag.com, none of the four have true Web browsers and all rely on UTMS, rather than the higher speed HSDPA.
More from T-Mobile’s release: “In the coming months, T-Mobile plans to offer its first HSDPA device, along with new and compelling data-centric, all-in-one devices that help make the most of T-Mobile’s high-speed data network.”

Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today’s movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.
Poor Matt, this guy has it so hard. If he isn’t having relational trouble with Julie Taylor, he’s disappointing his dad, his coach (Julie’s dad, conveniently enough), his team, or the entire town of Dillon, Texas. Last thing the guy needs is an iPhone telling him he’s wrong, so we’re going to pin this Friday Night Lights upside-down incident on Zach Gilford, the man behind the cute-shy quarterback legend that is Matt Saracen. You disappoint us, Zach.
[Thanks, EJ]

Grabbing a laptop with a built-in Blu-ray drive isn’t at all difficult finding one that’s reasonably affordable, however, is. Starting today, users looking to pick up a new BD-equipped lappie can get their kicks for under nine bills, as the base model Inspiron 1525 can be fitted with a Blu-ray combo drive (and the requisite 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo T5550 processor) for the low, low price of $879. Kicking things up to a Blu-ray burner will tack on another $200, and given the 1,280 x 800 screen resolution, we get the idea you’ll be utilizing that HDMI output in order to enjoy the 1080p capabilities (if it’ll even reach above 720p). Still, the aforesaid configuration is pretty lacking in most respects (1GB of RAM, 80GB HDD, and a woefully underwhelming GMA graphics accelerator), but hey, at least you’ll have Blu-ray! Grab yours now if you’re situated in Canada, Europe or the US of A.

We’ve seen phones that push the boundaries of chintziness, but this newfangled MP7 phone really shows what humans are capable of when they’ve no motivation to assemble a decent product. Granted, most everything here is lost in translation, but the blatant “Blue tooth” logo on the front pretty much sets it up for disaster. Nevertheless, this GSM handset reportedly comes in silver or black and features a 320 x 240 touchscreen display, a 1.3-megapixel camera, built-in FM tuner and support for some form of mobile TV along with the elusive “MP7″ format. Best of all, this marvelous gem of handset engineering can be had for $599.90 (or a dozen easy payments of $59.99) — we can hear the ỗ cowering from here (or is that laughter?).

You may have heard a little something about the Greener Gadgets Conference, a gathering in New York focused on cleaner, renewable, recyclable, or generally forward-thinking technology and design. At the end of the one-day event, Core77 editor-in-chief Allan Chochinov MC’d a showcase of entrants to a design competition held by the Greener Gadgets team, which were then vetted and discussed by co-organizer (and Inhabitat editor-in-chief) Jill Fehrenbacher, Valerie Casey of IDEO and The Designers Accord, and our own special-somebody, Ryan Block. When the dust settled, first prize went to crowd favorite Ener-Jar — a DIY project which allows you to easily view how much energy an appliance is using. Second place was snapped up by the Gravia, a gravity-based lamp which generates its own power by slowly dropping a weight in its center. The third place spot was nabbed by the Green Cell Universal Battery, a standardized battery which could be swapped out in vending machines. Sure, they probably won’t inspire you to trade in your gas-guzzling Hummer for a bike any time soon, but this stuff might at least get you thinking in the right direction. Check the video after the break to see how it all went down.

Check it, Willcom faithful. Two new candybar-styled handsets have emerged for your carrier of choice, and we must say, we’re pretty envious. Up first is the Kyocera WX330K (or Honey Bee, as we prefer), which checks in at 42- x 120- x 9.9-millimeters, is available in five different hues and features a two-inch QVGA display, Opera 7.2 browser, IrDA and an eye-catching Call button (of all things). Next up is the elusive X Plate, a 64-gram sophisticated toy that boasts a 1.8-inch LCD along with Java and Flash support. Plenty of pics waiting in the links below, so go on, take a peek at what America’s missing out on.

Oh noes. An independent investigation launched last week into an alleged multi-million-dollar slush fund has raided the homes of Samsung chairman, Lee Kun-Hee, and six other Samsung execs. The chairman and the executives are already banned from leaving the country. The investigation saw some 50 investigators seize documents and a laptop from Lee’s Seoul villa after a search lasting several hours. Samsung, for its part, has denied the long whispered bribery claims, made formal by its former chief lawyer last year.
