Belkin GoStudio Turns iPod into Recording Studio!

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

F8Z295_hero.jpg Now you can turn your iPod into your own mini, hand-sized recording studio with Belkin’s GoStudio.  It can record stereo audo directly to an iPod Classic, Nano or Video with its two built-in microphones, a mono speaker and four external microphone inputs.

The iPod slips into a holster-like setup and a recording menu appears.  Neat features include built-in gain and recording level controls as well as monitor controls so you can listen to your recording while you are doing it.

Cross Platform Mobile Game Playing Now Here

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

iphone-ingame.pngBringing another piece of the mobile future to today, Social Line Connect is a simple iPhone game with a cross-platform backbone.

The free app, which looks similar to Connect Four, was added to the App Store over the weekend.

The real point of the no-frills game is playing it with friends — even if they don’t own an iPhone. To that end, it’s a also proof-of-concept title for SocialDeck, a new middleware startup that’s created a server architecture for people to play games across several platforms.

Based on the premise that “social interaction is much more important than the actual game play,” SocialDeck’s games can be played between people using an iPhone and on the web via Facebook, with a Blackberry version said to be on the way as well.

fring Enhances Mobile IM Client with fringAdd-ons

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

fring claims that since they opened their API last Monday that hundreds of apps were submitted “proving that there’s an insatiable appetite in the U.S. for new mobile widgets and add-ons.”  In the past week, fring has approved four of these submitted apps/widgets which will be announced tomorrow.

Today, fring announces new fringAdd-on applications for social networking, video streaming and email notification specifically for Facebook, Google’s social networking site Orkut, VTap and Gmail. Essentially any web developer can develop a fringAdd-on just by heading on over to developers.fring.com. Only basic knowledge of PHP & XML is required. With these add-ons, fringsters with with Facebook or Google’s social network Orkut, can have continuous, real-time updates within your Facebook and Orkut accounts.

fring claims they are growing by 200k new users every month, and that users are spending up to three to four hours a day on the network. In the U.S., fring is known for having a beta VoIP solution for ‘jailbroken’ iPhones.

fring is one of the most powerful mobile VoIP apps out there, supporting Google Talk, MSN, Twitter, and even Skype. fring even has a built-in SIP client that works with any SIP service or IP-PBX. It even works with trixbox and Asterisk! fring takes standards such as SIP and even proprietary services such as Skype and translates their protocols via their centralized servers. You might even call fring “the swiss army knife of mobile VoIP”.

BroadSoft and JoeDeveloper.NET Debut Facebook VoIP App

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

JoeDeveloper.NET has quickly developed a Facebook VoIP app called Click2Message that uses BroadSoft’s carrier-grade Broadworks Platform. BroadSoft aims to have developers use their platform to develop VoIP applications. Comparisons of course will be made with Ribbit, which launched late last year and which also is targeting developers. And then of course there are plenty of companies out there offering VoIP widgets & call me buttons that you can place on a website - including but not limited to Skype, Jangl, Jaxtr, and TringMe. Lypp, run by former TMCnet SIPThat blogger Erik Lagerway also offers a development platform for VoIP applications.

So while what BroadSoft has done is nothing new, BroadSoft has certainly been on the leading edge of offering VoIP integration into business applications. For instance at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & Expo, BroadSoft and C3IP debuted the first-ever VoIP mashup with ACT! by Sage.

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Are you a Facebook user who also uses Microsoft Outlook? Have you ever wished that you could have your Outlook calendar update from your Facebook events and birthday lists? Now, you can! With fbCal, you′ll be able to remember you Facebook friends’ birthdays and all the events you′ve been invited to. In under a minute, you′ll have a Facebook calendar you can subscribe to in Outlook or a downloadable copy you can import into Outlook. fbCal will actually generate two different types of calendars - one for birthdays and one for events - and each is available as a subscription or a download. Subscription calendars get updated whenever you refresh your calendar after there was a change in your Facebook friends or events. Download calendars are only accurate up to when you last downloaded the calendar. All the calendars made by fbCal are iCalendar (.ics) format.

To Subscribe to an fbCal Facebook Calendar in Outlook:

1. Click the link for the Internet Calendar Subscription.
2. You might be prompted to acknowledge that you are opening a hyperlink. You should click Yes only if you know and trust the validity of the linked calendar.
3. At the prompt, Add this Internet Calendar to Outlook and subscribe to updates, click Yes.

Tech Bubble 2.0 video

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

This is the funniest video I’ve seen in a long time. It talks about hitting the big time (aka making billions) by starting a technology website, blogging website, etc. The video is played with a parody of Billy Joel’s "We didn’t Start the Fire" playing in the background. Facebook, TechCrunch, flickr, and YouTube are some of the companies parodied.

Excerpts:
- Find yourself an engineer, feed him pizza, buy him beer… give him just a fraction of a fraction of the pie.
-Need a good domain, must be cheap, can’t be lame.
- blog in the locker room, babies blogging in the womb..
