We’ve already seen early pictures and heard a release date for GamePark’s newest handheld — the Wiz — but now Engadget Spanish has gotten their hands and eyes all over the device, and they’ve brought back photos to prove it. As you can see from the pics, the portable console will be offered with more than one style of casing, and apparently the company is setting up some type of App Store-like service which will allow users to purchase and download software, as well as share their own homebrew apps. According to our team, it looks like that October 8th street date will be pushed back till sometime in November due to issues with the right control pad (which GamePark is working to correct). Until then, you can just feast your eyes on the gallery below.

Be still our hearts! After months upon months (upon months) of waiting, the tight-knit team behind the ultra-potent Pandora gaming handheld has finally divulged the information we’ve been clamoring for: the ARM Cortex A8-powered device will begin shipping before Christmas 2008 for £199.99 in the UK. The first batch will consist of 3,000 units, and the team is hoping that all of those will be sold out before the first one leaves the dock. There’s no word on how costly it’ll be for Americans, though we’re crossing our fingers that it’ll sell for a few bucks less than the $360 we find when simply converting pounds to dollars.
[Thanks, Andri]

We weren’t too thrilled with the Touch Diamond’s resistive touchscreen when we got a chance to play with HTC’s new hotness, but if you’re envious of that updated soft keyboard, you’re in luck: the Diamond’s ROMs have already been pulled apart and the .cab files are just a click away. Installation is said to be slow and you’ll have to jump through some hoops to switch the default language from Italian, but things will eventually work out for you — although we doubt anyone’s going to be nearly as impressed as if you had a real Touch Diamond.

Our brethren over at
Engadget Chinese had the chance to size-up HTC’s new Windows Mobile 6.1
Touch Diamond with Apple’s iPhone this morning in Taiwan. We have to admit, HTC’s CEO was dead-on when he claimed that the Diamond’s “not too big, not too small” after seeing it side-by-side with Microsoft’s left-coast nemesis. Hit the read link for bigger pics.

We’re already big fans of the Touch Diamond’s sleek black aesthetic, and it looks like the design language is going to carry over to the official accessories, like the dock. Yeah, it’s just a dock with a USB connector and a headphone jack so you can listen to music while charging / syncing your phone, but it’s definitely one of the slickest form factors we’ve seen — too bad it’s listed at £25 ($49).

Ah — we’d know that backside anywhere. If you were super-duper stoked about the forthcoming HTC Touch Diamond, you might want to sit down. Apparently, High Tech Computer Corp. has already sent this beauty over to the FCC, where a room is currently filled with men in white coats meticulously judging the above label placement. Regardless, this might bode well for a US release of the company’s latest and greatest… don’t you think? While you ponder that brainteaser, feel free to truck over to the FCC’s site and get all the information you could possibly want about the Diamond’s RF exposure.

We’ve got a few more details on the Touch Diamond to keep your motor running. Check it out!
- The Touch Diamond makes use of GPU accelerated procedural graphics, so you will not see a backward-compatible TouchFlow 3D update for the current Touch. It’s capable of doing 7-8mil polygons per second (not that many games or apps will make use of that right now).
- HTC has made hiding WinMo away something of a priority; CMO John Wang stated, “You wouldn’t even know this device was Windows Mobile. You would just think it’s TouchFlow 3D.”
- HTC totally reworked the WinMo virtual keyboard (as you can see above). Definitely not the best laid out we’ve seen (okay, it looks kind of messy), but it’s instantly lightyears ahead of what WinMo had before.
- Opera “reflows” web formatting, which HTC is pitching hard. Basically it just reformats and wraps text on zoom — unlike, say, the iPhone.
- Unfortunately, the device still uses a resistive touchscreen. The controls below are capacitive — that should be flipped around.
- And of course, we had to ask about Android: the first device is (still) coming later this year, but it will not in the form of the Diamond.
Oh, and don’t forget to check out the hands-on (with video).

We had a little thumb-print orgy with the new HTC Touch Diamond immediately following its launch. Light and small, the Touch Diamond comes off as a unit with promise. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while to get our hands on this via a US carrier, but Orange users in the UK will no doubt be pretty happy with this new handset, the first of its kind to use Windows Mobile 6.1.
Check out the gallery below, complete with comments and interface walk-through.

Here we are in London at the Soho Hotel with HTC, and we are among the first to see their new Diamond handset. While we thought we may see three new products in three different form factors, HTC Prez and CEO Peter Chou led-off the event by mentioning that they would be launching just “one” product today. He peppered his intro by talking about the Touch, so we were prepared to see an update on that product utilizing their TouchFLO tech.
The device has some pretty nice interface tech that they’re calling TouchFLO 3D that heavily emphasizes one-touch browsing and single-finger dialing. They emphasized web accessibility, zoom-in navigation with “just one hand” and not too many fingers.
Updates, specs, and pics after the break!

Being that music lovers everywhere are scrambling to find bona fide replacements to their suddenly antiquated compact disc players, it follows logic for Olive Media to give us one more option besides the OPUS Nº5. The OPUS Nº4 is a high-end digital music server which features between 320GB and 1TB of internal storage space, an integrated CD burner, 4.3-inch 480 x 272 touchscreen, gigabit Ethernet / 802.11g WiFi, a USB 2.0 port, a slew of audio outputs and native support for WAV, FLAC and MP3 files. As for the iPod-friendly MELODY Nº2 companion, it enables various rooms of the home to access tunes stored on the OPUS Nº4 as well as songs on any networked Mac, PC or NAS drive. If you couldn’t guess, both units are aimed squarely at the affluent sect, which probably explains the $1,499 to $1,799 (OPUS Nº4) / $599 (MELODY Nº2) price tags. Check the gallery on Engadget HD.

You know that potent 2.6GHz Phenom 9900 CPU that quite a few folks are waiting for? Apparently, exactly one of said chips has escaped the labs (with AMD’s blessing, of course) and made its way into the sponsored (and recently completed) Project: Phenom gaming rig. Of course, the design here is way, way over the top, and while folks allergic to chrome and not so fond of blatant overkill may be scrunching their noses up right about now, there’s no denying that it’s packin’ a nice set of internals. Hit up the read link for a gazillion and one images along with a number of construction videos — just slip on your shades beforehand, cool?

Quick note to the graphics enthusiasts in the house, HardOCP took a long look at CrossFireX using dual Radeon HD 3870 X2s. As you might expect, some games benefit from the raw power, some games require driver tweaks and knob-fiddling to get going right, and some games were just about the same without (read: your mileage my vary — for now). Check out their full review for the details.

Believe it or not, Alienware’s Aurora ALX rig was boasting quad SLI support two whole years ago. After yesterday’s official launch of ATI’s CrossFireX technology, now the ALX has another partner in quad GPU crime. Dubbed the Area-51 ALX CFX, this rig features a 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, a bevy of HDD choices, optional Blu-ray burner, a 1,000-watt power supply and of course, twin 1GB Radeon HD 3870 X2 cards (four GPUs in all). Granted, this thing will run you at least $5,649 as a CrossFireX-equipped rig, so think carefully if slicing into your son’s college fund is really worth 4x the graphical mayhem.

Get ready to burn through your allowance, kids, as AMD is getting set to loose its Catalyst 8.3 drivers for all to indulge in. What does the download net you, exactly? Why, CrossFireX support, of course. Starting today, users can link up any combination of RV670- and R680-based products — that includes the Radeon HD 3850, Radeon HD 3870 and Radeon HD 3870 X2 — in order to acquire triple- and quad-GPU performance within Windows Vista. Additionally, the drivers also introduce ATI Hybrid Graphics support in Vista, which was boasted about already when the firm unveiled its upcoming 780G chipset. Check out the read link for the full list of changes, and keep an eye on the firm’s support page for v8.3 to surface any moment now.
