Guitar Papercraft

Nathan writes -

Paperguitars.com has loads of free papercraft guitar models. You cut out all the pieces and glue them together to get the guitar of your dreams (at least a minaiture paper version of it).

They may not have quite the same tone as the originals but you sure can’t beat the price - PaperGuitar.com

Hansolocake

Michele created this Star Wars inspired cake depicting a cartoony Han Solo imprisoned in carbonite. Hmm, wonder if that first slice would free him or do him in? - Han Solo frozen in Carbonite [via Neatorama]

Scrabble tile pendants

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Here’s an easy tutorial for pendants made from Scrabble tiles and decorative papers. The process is interesting - it could be used for modding buttons and knobs. I’d never heard of Diamond Glaze before, it looks like that’s the key to the professional looking finish. Via Angry Chicken

How To: Make A Table Using Old Magazines

Monday, August 25th, 2008

magopener081808.jpg
This is a great project that can be made in about 10 minutes. I like the idea a lot, but I am not going to be using my collection of MAKE Magazines!

If there’s anything we have too many of in our apartment, it’s magazines and plants. So we solved the problem by re-purposing six magazines (and that’s all you need–no glue or scissors required!) into this plant stand.

Meatman
From the MAKE Flickr photo pool

Flickr member Arne Hendricks shares this shot of his “Meatloaf Voodoo” recipe. I recall a similar experiment I tried with friends, grilling up some hand-shaped ‘burger-dogs’. Shortly thereafter I became vegetarian :/” - Meatloaf Voodoo on Flickr

I found these little guys in the CRAFT Flickr pool: Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters, recreated as crochet toys. All of us here are fans, and I think the resemblance is pretty great.

Fashioning Technology reviewed on Geekdad

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Today’s Geekdad has a nice review of our latest book, Fashioning Technology:

Fashioning Technology gives neophyte DIYers the tools and skills they need to expand their tinkering capabilities, but it’s also a lot of fun and very educational for people who’ve already got their feet wet. And for those of us who are competent with electronics but interested in expanding our crafting skills, the dual craft-tech projects are a great help.

This book demonstrates how to blend sewing and assembly techniques with traditional electronics to assemble simple circuits using conductive thread, solder joints for snaps, and switches for buttons. With the sewing machine as a viable substitute for the soldering iron, you can craft a new generation of objects that are interactive, quirky, and fashion-conscious.

Look for Fashioning Technology Kits soon this Summer in the Maker Shed! For now, check out the rest of our CRAFT Kits.

Summer is a great time to make paper - you can make a mess outside! Here’s a site that shows how to make paper out of other paper.

I found this Instructable on making paper out of dryer lint.

HOW TO - Make video flipbooks with AfterEffects

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Vid Flipbook

Bennett sent us this how-to on making flipbooks from video -

I can’t quite remember how I got the idea, but I thought it would be fun to create some flipbooks based off of video I had shot. The challenge was to be able to effeciently process the frames from a 3-5 second clip, have them printed by a photography shop, and assemble them as easily as possible.

After some testing, I created a template within After Effects that takes a video as input, and through some expressions I wrote, outputs a sequence of JPGs - each with four video frames and crop markings per 4×6 print

Hit up the site for some nice video of the resulting books - Handmade Flipbooks
