How about a nice flashy sports car to wind down for the day on a lazy Friday afternoon? The Honda FC Sport concept is no ordinary sports car though, since it runs on hydrogen power and uses the same fuel-cell technology first seen on the Honda FCX Clarity. It was designed at Honda’s Advanced Design Studio in California and is intended to be a working prototype for production sports car that uses fuel-cell technology. Strangely there doesn’t seem to be any information floating about on horsepower or speed, but we do know it’s a mid-engine design that’s been streamlined and lowered to hug the road, so it’s got to be quite nippy. It’s a bit of a marmite design in terms of looks - you′ll either love it or hate it - but if this is the kind of thing we have to put up with to get someone to design an efficient zero-emission engine then so be it. Having problems parking that Bentley in central London? No worries, Fujitsu has developed a wraparound camera for cars that offers the driver a 360-degree view of the car and its position to make it easier to park and manoeuvre. The system adapts to various driving situations, offering up a choice oif views best suited to stop you backing into Bugatti Veyrons and running over the feet of traffic wardens. OK, maybe not that last one. That means you can chose what view of your car and the surroundings you need in situations like “parking, passing on a narrow street, and seeing around corners at intersections with poor sightlines”.This latest system goes well beyond the typical camera-mounted systems in use right now. The Fujitsu version comprises 4 cameras installed around the vehicle’s perimeter, with the video images being synthesised by a “3-D virtual projection/point of view conversion technology″. They add: “Additionally, when switching between different views as the driving situation changes, this new technology makes a smooth transition from one view to another by continuously interpolating points of view, fields of view, and sightlines. This helps to quickly orient the driver to the new view currently being shown, when the driver makes periphery checks.” You know it’s only a matter of time before the steering wheel is replaced by a games console controller.-Martin Lynch cars news camera

Browser bakeoffs are never without a certain amount of controversy, but we’re sort of into Pocketable’s latest comparison since the three devices on the bench represent three very different points on the spectrum of touchscreen devices. Having used all three, we’ll say upfront that the results are surprising: the Archos 5 smokes both the iPhone and the N810, and not always by small margins — the 5 loaded Engadget 18 seconds faster than the N810. (We did the same test with our 5 and iPhone 3G and the results were basically the same.) Now, that’s not to say that makes the 5’s Opera-powered browser the best or even the most useable, since in our experience scrolling is painfully choppy and hard to do with the resistive touchscreen, but it’s interesting that the hotrodded PMP managed to load pages consistently faster than either the smartphone or the Linux-powered tablet. Take a peek at the full results at the read link.

C’mon, what iPhone 3G user who actually takes full advantage of that 3G radio hasn’t been disappointed with battery life at one point or another? And be honest, you’re also disappointed with the downright naff battery extenders floating around out there. Granted, mophie’s iPhone 3G Juice Pack isn’t the most elegant thing in the entire world, but the “sled” design sure beats adding an unwanted appendage onto your handset. The device — which is shipping today to those who pre-ordered early — will reportedly provide up to 350 additional hours of standby, up to 6 hours of 3G talk time (or 12 hours on 2G), another 6 hours of web surfing and a 458% boost in overall happiness. Hell, you’d pay $99.95 just for the latter, now wouldn′t you?

You were looking for a laugh to start your Columbus Day / Canadian Thanksgiving Day / etc. off, weren’t you? Consider yourself lucky. OLO Computer is reportedly thinking of bringing to market a netbook-styled device that would actually enable (require?) users to plop their iPhone / iPhone 3G into the palm rest; from there, the handset would act as the brains of the operation and double as a trackpad. At the present time, there are no real specifications to speak of — just a zany teaser page and lots of speculation. We shouldn’t have to remind you what an epic failure the whole “cellphone companion” sector has been, as one look at Palm’s axed Foleo and the deeply discounted Celio REDFLY should be explanation enough. Hey, we’re not trying to discourage you from giving this a go, OLO, but we’d probably have a backup plan ready to roll in case Apple itself drops a netbook on the world in the next 48 hours.

Let the holiday season smart phone wars begin!!!
Research In Motion (RIM) has introduced its BlackBerry Storm – with its new tactile touch-screen — that will be exclusively available on Verizon Wireless in a couple of weeks.
Both RIM and Verizon Wireless are expecting the Storm to seriously challenge Apple’s 3G iPhone as the hottest gadget under this year’s Christmas tree or Hanukkah bush.
With a look similar to Apple’s iPhone, the Storm comes with a 3.2-inch screen, preloaded with Facebook, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. The gadget features built-in GPS, a 3.2-megapixel camera, video recording capability, a media player and a removable battery.
Additional applications will be available through a BlackBerry app store. (No surprise there! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
The device is expected to sell for approximately the same price as an iPhone.
The Storm was introduced in London, where Vodafone, a joint venture partner in Verizon Wireless, said it will exclusively offer the Storm in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand later this fall.
See more images of the Storm from eWeek here.

No need to defog your spectacles, what you just read there in the headline is the truth. Astoundingly enough, Motorola’s nearly archaic (in cellphone years, anyway) RAZR V3 is still the top-selling handset in the United States. Of course, it helps that it’s highly subsidized on practically every carrier from coast to coast, but we’re still a little stunned that it’s selling this well nearly 2.5 years after Moto moved its 50 millionth unit. The rest of the top five isn′t nearly as shocking, with Apple’s iPhone snagging the silver, RIM’s BlackBerry Curve grabbing the bronze, LG’s Chocolate at number four and the BlackBerry Pearl at five. With the original RAZR still selling so well, one would think Motorola could just tweak it slightly and issue a second iteration for even more windfall profits. Er, wait.

If the idea of a receiver is just too lowbrow for you, check out Denon’s processor/amplifier separates, the AVP/POA-A1HDCI (’AVP’ for the processor, ‘POA’ for the amp). Six HDMI 1.3 inputs, two parallel HDMI outputs and Silicon Optix Realta video processing are some processor highlights; the amp packs in 10 channels at 150-watts. While you’re at it, why settle for a Blu-ray player when you can get a dedicated transport? That back panel picture of the DVD-2500BTCI is no prototype unit — all you get is a power cord, HDMI output, and RS-232. Spin those bits off the Blu-ray disc and send them on to the AVP-A1HDCI for decoding. Pricing is securely in the “if you have to ask…” category: $7k for the AVP-A1HDCI, $7k for the POA-A1HDCI and $1200 for the DVD-2500BTCI.

There’s a WiMAX shindig coming our way at CES next Monday courtesy of Intel, Sprint and Asus. From the sound of things it’ll primarily be Sprint and Intel letting everyone know how very, very fast WiMAX is — and how ahead of the curve we should know they are on deployment and chipsets — but things will get a little extra interesting when the companies start showing off WiMAX “mobile solutions″: actual devices that actually play around with the new wireless standard. Asus in particular will be one to watch, since it’s showing the sequel to the Eee PC, bedecked in WiMAX garb. That’s as much info as we have at this point, and we’re guessing Asus won′t be launching the new Eee PC in the coming months while the current model is still selling so well, but we’re looking forward to a peek all the same.

Obsessed with your Eee PC? Enough to go and buy a few accessories designed specifically for it by Asus? If so, you should know that Asus has unveiled five compact mice, a headset, world power adapter and a pair of extra batteries for its newest darling. As for the mice, they each sport a 1,000dpi resolution, USB connectivity and come in five different hues. Moving on, we’ve got a pair of noise-isolating headphones that come with a trio of ear tips and in your choice of white or black, and the new power adapter provides prongs for an unspecified number of foreign countries. Lastly, users who are perpetually finding themselves far, far away from an AC outlet can pick up a four- or six-cell battery. No word on prices or release dates just yet, but we’d bet they′ll be rolling out soon enough.

This one’s definitely not for anyone concerned with warranties and whatnot, but those looking to expand their
Eee PC’s wireless capabilities without resorting any unsightly adapters may want to check out the latest how-to from jkmobile, which gives you the rundown on adding internal 3G HSDPA to the diminutive laptop. That, as you might have guessed, involves a fair bit of slicing and soldering, not to mention disassembling a standard 3G HSDPA modem (a ZadaCOM 3G+ HSDPA, in this case). The process is apparently further eased if you have just the right Eee PC model, as the 8G’s 8GB SSD drive takes up too much room, and the earlier 4G models require some additional cutting to squeeze the modem in. Hit up the read link below for pics of the whole process and a video of the hack in action.

We’re not exactly sure why, but we never really had a feeling that Asus wouldn’t be able to move a copious amount of these things. Nevertheless, DigiTimes has it that Asus actually sold through 350,000 Eee PCs in a single quarter, beating industry expectations by a solid 50,000 units. Also of note, the report mentions that Asus is planning to launch the little bugger into Best Buy stores in the US while also kicking off sales in Japan next year, so there should plenty of opportunities to grab one if you’ve somehow missed out thus far.

The newly announced $300, 2G Surf ASUS Eee PC is now available on-line and in color. Twas always meant to be, only we weren’t expecting them to pop for another month. Since the previous models were only available in black (the absorption of all colors) and white (the reflection of all colors), these are technically the first Eees to feature color — fancy blush pink, sky blue, and lush green. In stock and ready for delivery by that chubby man who’s fond of children.

We’ve seen a couple sweet Eee PC mods, but this seamless addition of a touchscreen is probably the best so far. It looks like this particular Eee is running XP, and the $60 eBay-sourced car touchscreen our enterprising hacker bolted on seems to work seamlessly with both pen and finger. Check the full vid after the break.
