Victor Japan (more popularly known as JVC) has announced its new HP-FXC50 Earphones which can literally reach deeper inside your ear than any other earphone can. The new model is a sound-isolating earphone with a driver located in the part of the device that enters the ear. I think it’s very clear from the picture how the earphone would work: the sound channel (the part which goes inside the ear) of the HP-FXC50 is longer, which means it could slide in deeper.
Based on its architecture, it would be nearer your ear drums than other earphone could reach. While JVC promises comfort, I can’t help but be wary of ear-related injuries. Let’s hope I’m just being paranoid. The earphone has a response of 103dB/1mW, with a 150mW max permissible input. The JVC/Victor Japan HP-FXC50 earphones will be available in Japan starting August of 2008 for $37.60.

After slipping past their original spring release date, Panasonic’s PZ850 series of plasmas are no longer the only ones with YouTube support, but those desiring internet features, high contrast ratios and easy-access calibration settings can expect them on shelves this summer. The 46-, 50- and 58-inch versions should all be available in mid-June, with the 65-incher rolling out in August. Other than the IP features (Picasa access is also part of the package) the THX-certified PZ850s support h.264 playback from the SD card slot, RS-232C, 24p native playback, and a variety of display modes and settings to get the picture just the way the director intended, the way you like it, or anywhere in between. Check after the break for a list of prices, and our video hands on from CES 2008.

It’s times like these when holding our fingers back from buying that one-way ticket to Tokyo is so incredibly difficult. Just today, Pioneer has introduced the Air Navi AVIC-T10, a portable car navigation system that “supports communications modules and provides drivers with new communications services for the Japanese market.” According to the release, this bad boy is “clearly distinguished from conventional PNDs,” provides oodles of information about traffic, weather, local events, gas station prices, etc. and packs a pretty impressive list of specs. We’re talking a 5.8-inch WVGA display, 1-seg TV tuner, 4GB of flash memory, integrated gyro sensor and built-in Bluetooth to boot. Those lucky enough to be in the right nation can snatch this gem next month for a currently undisclosed price.

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/gadgets/Pioneer_KURO_and_friends_hands_on’; We got to plant our eyeballs on Pioneer’s second-gen KURO plasma display (bottom center), along with all that other new gear Pioneer released today. While all by its lonesome the new flagship display is no doubt impressive, when stacked up against the competition it becomes quite clear that this new KURO is the one to beat. Granted, this was Pioneer’s own setup designed to make us believe precisely that, but we certainly did find the new display notably blacker than its predecessor, and quite a lot better than the competing offerings Pioneer had on display. The new KURO projector was also quite impressive, and we even got treated to the much-improved start times of Pioneer’s new Blu-ray players.

Not content with just busting out a new pair of Elite KURO plasmas, Pioneer has separately introduced four 1080p Pro models for those with (even more) exquisite tastes and deep wallets to back it up. The whole lot enjoys the firm’s highly touted Optimum Mode, which “simultaneously monitors video and room light conditions” and then makes the most appropriate adjustments based on what it senses, and “industry leading” calibration features. As for the 50-inch PRO-111FD ($5,000) and PRO-151FD ($6,500), you can expect a bolstered two year warranty and a ship date to be determined, while the Signature Series PRO-101FD (50-inch) / PRO-141FD (60-inch) units will arrive in October and August (respectively) with prices not yet disclosed.

Sure, those flashy new KURO plasmas or that new array of receivers may have taken you by surprise, but don’t pretend you didn’t know this one was coming. Known simply as the Elite KURO projector, this 1080p beamer incorporates LCoS technology, dual HDMI 1.3 ports, wide lens shift capacity, a trio of viewing modes (standard, dynamic and movie) and a real semblance to JVC’s DLA-HD100. According to the firm, it’s designed for “high-end cinematic installations and supports advanced calibration,” and of course, you can’t escape a KURO release without a little bragging about black levels. We’re still waiting on a finalized specifications list, but ’til then, you can chew on that $9,000 price tag and wait for these to hit dealers next month.

You do know it’s quite rude to stare, don’t you? No worries — we’re pretty sure Pioneer fully expected its 2008 line of Elite AV receivers to catch a few eyes, much like its succulent Elite SC-09TX did last fall. The luxurious new crew consists of the Elite SC-07, SC-05, VSX-03TXH and VSX-01TXH, all of which were designed specifically to complement the second-gen KUROs and fresh new BD players. As expected, the whole lot handles internal decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, not to mention support for 12-bit Deep Color and a Faroudja video scaler. If you’re curious about dollars and ship dates, you can look for the SC-05 / SC-07 to land in August for $1,800 / $2,200, while the VSX-01TXH and VSX-03TXH will hit next month for $750 / $1,000. Then again, those obsessed with instant gratification could snag the VSX-94TXH right now for $1,600. Check the full release waiting after the break.

Quite a lot has
gone on in Pioneer’s
world since it wowed us all with the
Project KURO at CES, but one thing hasn’t changed: it’s dedication to world-class black levels. Announced alongside several other
fine pieces of kit today in NYC, the 2008
KURO family will posses black levels “five times deeper than the previous KURO.” According to company bigwig Paul Meyhoefer, the ultimate goal is “pure, absolute black,” and it’s well on its way with the latest line. You’ll also find a feature dubbed Optimum Mode, which “simultaneously monitors video and room light conditions” and then makes the most appropriate adjustments based on what it senses. Sadly, most of the nitty-gritty details have been omitted for now, but you can count on the June-bound models checking in at just 3.7-inches thick, sporting 1080p panels alone (no 720p), coming in 50- ($4,000) / 60-inch ($5,500) sizes (no 42-inch) and arriving with a new remote / redesigned HD interface. Jump on past the break for the full release, but we’re warning you, there’s an awful lot of gloating down there.

It looks like anyone that makes regular use of an RSA key for one reason or another could soon have a new favorite USB flash drive, with SanDisk announcing the availability of so-called “two-for-one” Cruzer Enterprise drives, which provide both secure date storage and RSA SecurID software tokens for two-factor authentication (eliminating the need for a separate hardware authenticator). The drive is also apparently no slouch when it comes to the usual storage security measures, with it boasting 256-bit AES encryption, and a setup process that requires users to create complex passwords before they’re able to make use of the drive. No word on pricing just yet, but you’ll apparently be able to get the drive in your choice of 1, 2, 4, or 8GB varieties, with each boasting a respectable read speed of 24MB per second and a write speed of 20MB per second.

We’ve seen a number of iPod speakers with pass-through dock connectors, but we’ve never really understood the point — why would we listen to music on our iPod when we’re already sitting at the computer, which has better speakers? iHome’s latest rig, the iH69, tries to bring it all together, though, with an iPod dock integrated directly into a set of upright computer speakers. We’re not sold on the idea until we actually hear ‘em — or we get a sub in the deal — but those of you looking to save on some cable clutter should look for these bad boys to drop sometime in June.

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a new
X-Fi device from Creative, but it looks like the company’s now set to expand it’s audio-enhancing empire a bit further, with its new X30 iPod dock apparently nearly ready for a release. While there’s unfortunately no
wireless streaming going on here, the dock will at least let you hook your iPod up to a stereo or pair of speakers, as well as a TV thanks to the dock’s s-video port, with that much-hyped X-Fi technology promising to make everything sound better than ever. Look for this one to set you back just under €80 (or about $125) when it hits Europe next month — no word on a release ’round these parts just yet.

We’ve seen extravagant iPod docks before, but this Krell and MartinLogan “ElectroKID” bundle put together by the folks at Absolute Sounds makes just about all those other pretenders pale in comparison. At the heart of things here is the Krell KID iPod dock, which boasts ” top-quality preamp circuitry” and is also available separately for a mere £1,350 (or about $2,700). That gets teamed up with a pair of MartinLogan Purity floorstanding speakers (£2,390, or $4,800 on their own), which each pack their own 200W power amp and, as you can see, make quite the statement in any room you place ‘me in. If that’s sounds like the missing piece to your iPod puzzle, you can get the complete system now for £3,740, or just over $7,500 (that’s right, not even a discount to entice you).

One of the hottest overlooked features of the VAIO TZ is the SSD + HDD configuration, which allows you to speed up booting and other system tasks that rely on quick random reads by running Windows off the SSD while still being able to lug all your data around on the traditional hard drive. Of course, the no-compromises option is rarely the budget option, but Sony’s at least trying for value with the new premium TZ configuration — your $3,699 now buys 64GB of SSD and 250GB of HDD, up from 32 and 160. The new model also includes 2GB of RAM, a Sprint EV-DO card, fingerprint sensor, and external dual-layer burner, as well as the TZ’s usual 11.1-inch XBRITE screen and 1.33GHz U7700 Core 2 Duo processor. Sony’s taking preorders now on sonystyle.com for delivery in March — looks like the TZ isn’t going to give up that “hottest ultralight” crown to the MacBook Air so easily, now is it?

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/hardware/VAIO_TZ_gets_a_64GB_SDD_250GB_HDD_configuration’;Somewhat lost in Sony’s massive CES VAIO spec bump was an update to the super hot (but generally overlooked) top-end VAIO TZ that features both an SSD and HDD, which allows you to speed up booting and other system tasks that rely on quick random reads by running Windows off the SSD while still being able to lug all your data around on the traditional hard drive. The no-compromises model got bumped to 64GB of SSD and 250GB of HDD, up from 32 and 160, but we didn’t know a ship date until now — looks like Sony’s taking preorders now on sonystyle.com for delivery in March. Eww, it’s back. Nokia’s 7900 Crystal Prism is now really, extra-super official with a scheduled Q1 2008 launch for €375 (before taxes and subsidies). Besides sporting a slight redesign from that earlier pic, we now know that the 7900 packs WCDMA 2100/850 in addition to those quad-GSM bands, 2-inch OLED, and 2 megapixel CMOS camera. But really, this one’s all about the look created by designer Frédérique Daubal. Yeah, us neither. “Renowned” enough for Nokia though, just not the 9.4 million pages of Wikipedia. See her “dress for tired people” after the break to see where this could have gone.
